Leamington 3 Continental Star 5  - 24/08/02 - Midland Combination Premier Division

BRAKES turned in a dire performance on Saturday as they conceded five league goals at the New Windmill for the first time.

It ended a 20-match unbeaten run stretching back to February's 3-2 reverse at Wilmcote. More worryingly, it showed how ruthlessly mistakes can be punished in the Premier Division.

Ex-Pershore keeper Myles Day was not to blame for the result, but he will not remember his debut with fondness. Forced to make a fine save in the second minute, he was picking the ball out of his net before five had passed.
Darren Timms had an effort cleared off the line before the Brakes equaliser came. Timms was involved again, forcing a sprinting defender to put the ball past his own keeper on 20 minutes.

In a pattern that was to be repeated, the effort was quickly squandered when two careless passes let Star in for a 3-1 half-time lead.
No doubt roasted by managers Barry Proctor and Jason Cadden at half time, Brakes resumed with far more purpose. Paul Nicholls scored from the spot following a trip on Chris Hammond and Ben Adams got his first Brakes goal following a Blake pass on the hour.
Four minutes later another failed clearance let Star in again and almost at once Justin Rowe danced through an apparently petrified defence to conplete a deserved hat-trick.

Proctor said: "We didn't compete. They were stronger, fitter and had more desire than we did.
"Too many of our players had an off day and just didn't perform."
