Leamington FC maintained their Midland Combination Division 1 unbeaten record with a Bank Holiday double at the New Windmill over the weekend.

Brakes demolished Handsaker 5-0 on Saturday and followed up with a hard fought success over Holly Lane on Monday to climb into the top six of the early season table.

Ace-striker Josh Blake proved the hero on Saturday by grabbing a well taken hat-trick in what was his final game before serving a five match suspension.

Baz Shearsby was also on target while new signing Harj Dhesi claimed the final goal as the substitute’s inswinging corner was helped into the net by the hapless visiting keeper.

Fellow new-boys Benson Miyoba and pony-tailed Italian goalkeeper Fabio Tosti also enjoyed pleasing debuts in front of a 450 strong crowd.

Delighted joint manager Barry proctor said “It was a cracking performance and it’s the best we have played since we started up again”.

“We produced some excellent football and the crowd loved it.  Everybody was disappointed after drawing the first game but the lads worked really hard in training and got their reward.”

In contrast, Brakes found difficulty breaking down a well organised Holly Lane outfit in front of a healthy holiday crowd of 517.

Fit-again Steve Thompson, who replaced the unavailable Miyoba, enjoyed a successful return and broke the deadlock 2 minutes before the break.

Thompson cut in from the left and thumped a well struck effort beyond the visiting keeper which settled the scrappy contest.

Proctor added “It was nothing like Saturday but they were no mugs and it was a case of grinding out a result.

“We’ve not taken seven points out of nine which has kept us in touch with the leaders”.
