Invitational Cup

ANOTHER spectacular free kick from Harj Dhesi gave
Brakes victory in the new Leamington Invitational Cup at Manor Park on
Wednesday night.
The Nationwide Conference club, old rivals of Leamington, fielded a strong
side including six first-team regulars. Boro took the lead on 15 minutes
when the Leamington defence failed to clear its lines. Darren Timms hit a
spectacular equaliser on the half-volley after good approach work from
Nick Mort, Ian Billington and Paul Eden.
Dhesi fired in his 20-yard free kick before the break when Eden was pulled
down outside the box by the stranded keeper. Nuneaton fielded a couple of
trial players after the break, when Benson Miyoba missed a golden chance
to put Brakes further ahead.
Co-manager Jason Cadden said: "It was an excellent workout and we did
very well and played some cracking football. Nuneaton put out a strong
side and everyone really enjoyed it."
Ex-Racing Club Warwick defender Tom Sidwell made his debut for Brakes in
the match.
The two-legged cup contest will be settled in the new year, when Boro will
help celebrate the switch on of the New Windmill Ground floodlights.
