Fernhill 2 Leamington 0  - 05/11/02 - Midland Combination Premier Division
Taken from the Leamington Courier Online

INTO the fourth month of the season and only two league defeats - it hardly sounds like cause for complaint.

But the fans who made the trip to Fernhill's Pershore home for this Icis Midland Combination Premier Division match on Tuesday had every reason to criticise their team. From start to finish, Brakes were outfought and outplayed by a limited but willing Fernhill side. Lightweight in attack and lacking any midfield authority, they had no answers to their hosts' ninth-minute opener. Any remaining doubts were expelled when Myles Day was beaten by a penaltry early in the second half.

Darren Timms partnered Josh Blake up front, but there was no repeat of Saturday's hat-trick heroics. The pair's only real moment of understanding came when Timms headed a Blake cross wide on the hour mark. Young striker James Harri made a cameo appearance from the bench, managing one effort which flashed across the face of goal. Other than that, ball after ball was lumped towards the box and easily mopped up by the home defence.

For a side so well endowed with individual talent it was a hopelessly unimaginative approach, containing about as many surprises as a Status Quo concert. Injuries and unavailabilties hardly helped, but Brakes will have to improve dramatically for the trip to Bolehall Swift tomorrow - not to mention Tuesday's meeting with leaders Rugby Town at the New Windmill
