AP Leamington were no strangers to the FA Cup 1st round proper
during the 70s, meeting league opposition on several

being the team's heaviest ever defeat in the competition, 9-0.
At the time, Tranmere were just inside the
bottom half of the old Division 4. Their chairman writes
in his notes that Tranmere had struggled against non-league
opposition in previous seasons and got his wish that this game
would see an improvement Brakes were managed, at
the time, by Jimmy Knox - formerly of Raith Rovers and
Coventry City. This was his 5th year in charge.
